Zamalek ends Ahly’s long unbeaten streak
Patrice Carteron tactics give Zamalek
a huge win over the life’s long rival Al Ahly.
Egyptian Premier League leader Al
Ahly lost to its bitter rival Zamalek in Cairo derby, with a score of 3-1 at
the International Cairo Stadium in Cairo on Saturday.
Al Ahly entered the match with a 20-game unbeaten streak in which they won 18 games and drawn twice. The streak came to an end as Zamalek players skilfully managed to lead the game in the way their coach Patrice Carteron wanted and that was to leave the possession to Al Ahly players but capitalise on the least of chances. Moreover, Zamalek’s goalkeeper Abogabal showed a noticeable performance during the game.
Patrice Carteron knew how Al Ahly game
was of a great importance to his players’ morale. So, he rested some key
players in the match before Al Ahly against Masr team which resulted in a draw
0-0.
The defending champions had more
chances but Zamalek players were more decisive in their chances scoring their first
goal in the 13th minute by Ahmed El Sayed. Al Ahly was able to score
on 62nd minute but then Zamalek returned and scored two goals to end
the end the match with a score of 3-1.
Even though Al Ahly holds a 14-point
lead over Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League but the Cairo derby was always
considered as a championship in and of itself. Consequently, this win would give
Zamalek fans a reason to brag through the end of the season.
