Usual scene on Cairo roads; Eight injured in traffic collision
Eight people were injured and seven vehicles were severely burned in a traffic collision on Saturday, which happened on Cairo's Ring Road according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
Fortunately, no deaths were reported, the Health Ministry said, adding that the injured were immediately transferred to Al Bank Al Ahly Hospital. The injuries varied from fractures, bruises and burns.
There was a number of videos shared on social media of the accident that showed an immense fire and a heavy cloud of smoke in a usual scene on Cairo's roads. Earlier, in July a pipeline leaked on Ismalia Road leading to a massive fire and the injury of 17 people. A report in June 2020 by the Central Agency of Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed a 17.8% increase in road accidents in Egypt.
Moreover, the main cause of road accidents was human error, accounting for 79.7% followed by technical defects in vehicles accounting for 13.5 %, the report continued.
There are laws in the Egyptian constitution regarding traffic that include that heavy trucks should restrict themselves to the right lane and not exceed 50 km/hr or else the driver may face jail time. But as usual it is not strictly applied in a country where fatal matters, ironically, is not of a big concern.
Good info, thanks Hady
